IT Modernisation - Supporting a US Corporation’s Transformation

Case Study: Supporting a US Corporation’s Transformation in Hong Kong and China

A US-based multinational engaged PTS to take over and modernise their IT operations across Hong Kong and China. With pandemic travel restrictions in place, their US IT leadership faced a 12-hour time difference and lacked on-the-ground visibility—making execution particularly challenging.

The Challenge The company operated across three sites in China—comprising manufacturing and office space—as well as a corporate office in Hong Kong. Their US team outlined several urgent objectives:

  • Migrate all on-premises infrastructure to the cloud
  • Deploy a new regional IT support model across Hong Kong and China
  • Transition China-based users to a thin client VDI solution
  • Redesign and rebuild the entire network and IT infrastructure
  • Shift from an incumbent IT provider to PTS without disrupting operations

The Solution PTS took full ownership of delivery. We worked across time zones to bridge communication gaps, engaged local stakeholders to build trust and secure buy-in, and managed vendor negotiations to keep the project on time and on budget.

Key Outcomes

  • Seamless transition from legacy systems to cloud platforms
  • VDI deployment across China sites with no disruption to productivity
  • Network modernisation delivered without downtime to manufacturing operations
  • Full handover from the previous IT provider executed smoothly under tight constraints
  • Ongoing support model established and operational within weeks

Why It Worked Clear communication, local expertise, and decisive project leadership. PTS provided the strategic oversight and on-the-ground capability their US team lacked—delivering outcomes without requiring a single flight.
